The grounds for the decision by Wiltshire Council planning officers were the ecological impacts, drainage, and highways impacts caused by the loss of the verge.

The applicants can appeal, though WC has informed them that should they do so then the council will attempt to claim costs against them for unreasonable behaviour.

There were 600 comments recorded on the WC planning portal, almost all of them objecting.
