‘Fire and re-hire’ won’t be discussed at council meeting

Here’s a release from Cllr Ricky Rogers, who had attempted to take a motion on the administration’s dodgy dealing to the October council meeting:

Following the Chairman’s refusal to allow debate on the condemned Industrial Relations Tactic known as ‘Fire and Re-hire’ Labour Group Leader Ricky Rogers said “I am deeply concerned that Wiltshire Council Officers are being allowed to use this nationally condemned Industrial Relations Tactic, I fully understand that Members must stay out of Operational Matters, but when those matters not only bring our Council into disrepute but will tarnish the Employer status and reputation of our Council for years to come, then Members voices must be heard”

“Following the National Scandal involving P&O and ‘Fire and Rehire’ which received condemnation throughout Government and indeed the then Prime Minister, Wiltshire Council could become the first Council in the country to use ‘Fire and Rehire’, “I believe this Industrial Relations Tactic breaches our Constitution by knowingly bringing our Council into disrepute, that is why Elected Members must be allowed to make their voices heard over this operational matter”
