The long-awaited pedestrian crossing for the village is now in use.
In the consultation on the proposal to install the crossing there were about 140 submissions in support and 8 objections. The decision to go ahead was made in February, with construction taking several weeks in April and May.
To pay for the crossing Holt was awarded £11,000 from Wiltshire Council’s ‘Substantive Highways Scheme’. This is a fund of £100,000 for road safety improvements across the county, and Holt’s bid was one of only five successful projects.
The Area Board agreed to contribute a further £5,000. There were also commitments of £500 from the Parish Council and £500 from the school. Local fundraising included the ‘Any Questions’ event on Dec 2nd which raised £1,000 and a contribution from the village’s Auction of Promises.
