The January Area Board meeting at South Wraxall heard from Andy Green of Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue about the problems caused by people trying to drive through flood waters at Staverton.
Since December 2004 DWFRS have carried out 22 operations in the area. Thirty people including children were rescued from the water, with a similar number of vehicles recovered.
The proposed solution is to put in four flood gates – two for the B3106 and two for the B3105. The 3106 (Holt Lane) is always the first to flood when the Avon rises. Flooding of The Causeway is a less common event.
The Area Board gave strong support to the idea. However as it will require Wiltshire Council highways and the Environment Agency to work together and agree funding there may be much water flowing under and over the bridge before anything happens.Leave a comment
