Cumberwell footpath diversion gets more time

by trevorcarbin on 16 June, 2021

The golf course is being expanded in accordance with a recent planning permission, which has resulted in the diversion of footpath SWRA24. This is a very well-used path and is part of the ‘Bradford Wheel’ system of rights of way.

Planning officers have investigated the works and have confirmed that the work is being done in accordance with the consent

Wiltshire Council rights of way department have also checked the footpath diversion. A formal diversion order has now been made and is valid for six months. Two more such orders could be made to total eighteen months. Any further extensions would need government approval.

The current plan is for the footpath to be reinstated on the original line when the work is complete.

Update June 2021 – a second six-month diversion period has now been authorised, taking it up to December 28th 2021.

Thank you for taking an interest in this Trevor. The footpath issue is only part of a wider concern – which is the continued extension of the golf course which seems never-ending. Large construction phases seem to begin and never finish, leaving large areas of land blighted. It is a serious cause for concern that the present works will result in the same thing – perfectly fine agricultural land and a beautiful view turned over to the tipping of rubble. It is surprising that this application was given consent while nearby Cumberwell “developments” appear to be abandoned. Works for tipping are progressing faster than any landscaping for a golf course.
