Holt Stone replaced

by trevorcarbin on 10 May, 2019

The Grade 2 listed historic marker stone at Staverton river bridge, which was uprooted and cast aside by contractors working on the traffic lights last year, has finally been reset.  This was done at the same time as the repairs to the parapet of the bridge during the recent road closure.

Normally the damage to the listed structure would’ve resulted in prosecution of the perpetrators, but as the planning enforcement part of the council can’t take action against the highways department this didn’t happen.

The stone, which dates from mid-Victorian times, seems to have suffered little additional damage.  Ironically, despite warning people against trespass, it’s been set next to a more modern sign pointing out the footpath across the field.
