Two homes on The Street were flooded on May 31^st by a not particularly heavy storm, and residents of the area from the shop to The Elms are naturally concerned that a real downpour would do a lot more damage.

WC say the drainage was inspected following the previous heavy rainfall and it appeared to be working correctly.  However a ticket has been raised for the system to be jetted when the vactor is next in the Holt area during the week commencing 30^th July.

Historically these gullies overflow in heavy rain as the system is trying to discharge into the culvert by the shops and when the volume of water increases in the culvert it causes the gullies in The Street to surcharge.  If jetting doesn’t resolve the problem then with the likelihood of ever more vicious downpours in future we’ll have to look for other solutions.
